David Marshall brutalist splint wood and cast brass basket, 1970s

This sculptural basket was created by David Marshall during the 1970s, combining brutalist metalwork with organic modern craft traditions. The body is constructed from woven splint wood bark strips built over a natural branch rim, reinforced along the upper perimeter with laced leather binding and fitted with two cast brass sculptural handles. The piece bears the signature mark of David Marshall on the cast metal mount.
