Pair of Angraves armchairs model Invincible in Chinese Chippendale style in faux bamboo, Art Deco period circa 1930 - Pair of armchairs. Made in England by the Angraves factory. Model "Invincible" from the workshops of Brook Street, Thurmaston, near Leicester. Art Deco period, estimated dating around 1930. According to John Linnel, who produced the first model in 1767. Chinese Chippendale style. Polygonal profile backrest. Architecturally structured decoration featuring trellis and geometric open latticework. Straight armrests with open sleeves echoing the trellis motif. Straight legs reinforced by a wide X-shaped stretcher and corner brackets. Structure in rattan and bent wood crafted to imitate bamboo (faux bamboo technique). Joints and assemblies highlighted by crossed woven ligatures. Straight seat with caned and woven base. White lacquered finish (repainted pieces). Rectangular metal identification plate nailed under the seat rail of each chair, bearing the stamped inscription "ANGRAVES / 'INVINCIBLE' REGD. / BROOK ST., / THURMASTON, / NR LEICESTER." Upholstery includes two removable cushions made to measure. In perfect condition. Structure sound, stable, and rigid. Minimal signs of wear on the base of the legs.
