Pair of Vintage Armchairs by designer Charles Ramos, 1950s. The oak legs, proportions, and shaped backrest make them very comfortable and give them a very pure and almost futuristic design. Reupholstered with Quintana petrol blue boucle fabric, Seat height 45 cm. These seats have been attributed to Charles Ramos, as unsigned, based on archival documents such as vintage catalogues, designer documents, or other documentary sources (see photos). Charles Ramos (1925–?) is a French designer known for his elegant and minimalist creations in the 1950s–1960s. Born in Algeria into a family of carpenters, he studied at the Beaux-Arts in Algiers before joining the aviation of the Free French Forces in London during World War II. Upon returning to Paris, he began his career in interior design in 1950, collaborating with publishers such as Castella-netta and Magnani. Ramos is known for his creations that combine functionality and aesthetics, using materials such as ash, black laminate, and brass. His iconic works include the “Ramos” sideboard (1958) and the “Ellipse” armchair (1962), as well as several coffee tables and bookshelves that reflect the elegance of mid-20th century French design. His pieces remain sought after by collectors of vintage and design furniture. This piece has been attributed based on archival documents, such as vintage catalogues, designer documents, or other documentary sources (see photos).
