Persian Rug "Tree of Life" with Birds – 137 X 240 Cm - Handmade - Perfect Condition - Exceptional collector's piece: a magnificent hand-knotted Persian rug. This rug is a masterful example of the classic "Tree of Life" theme featuring birds, executed with remarkable finesse and quality of detail. Composition and Decor The composition is centred on a vibrant and rich red field, adorned with a large and elegant Tree of Life with flowering branches that extend the full height. This tree is populated by a true menagerie of finely detailed exotic birds: Two majestic peacocks, symbols of royalty and immortality, are positioned on either side of the base of the trunk. Their tails are fanned out, displaying the distinctive ocellus patterns. A pair of large wading birds (probably herons or storks), with long graceful necks, is prominently positioned in the upper register. Many other smaller birds, with varied plumage (pheasants, small songbirds), are perched on the branches, among dense and flowering foliage. At the base of the tree, more complex flowers and detailed plant motifs can be seen, set against a slightly contrasting ground. The central field is framed by several distinct borders: The main border is particularly impressive, featuring large alternating medallions on a deep turquoise green background, filled with complex palmettes and golden and red flowers. Narrower secondary borders, one inner (on an ivory background with intertwined vine motifs) and one outer (on a gold background with almond motifs), border the main one, adding depth and contrast. Notably, Persian calligraphic inscriptions can be observed in a cartouche at the top of the main border, an additional sign of prestige.
