Old bronze apothecary mortar. Nineteenth century

Authentic ancient apothecary mortar in bronze. The authentic and ancient character is observed in the fact that the mortar is made of one piece (no welding in the middle), that the old mortars were always finished by the lathe, unlike the most recent ones. This work always leaves traces, even with wear. The exterior of the old mortars was still finished with a lime. Newer files are double crossed grooves. The old files, made by hand, had only a series of grooves. On this object, we observe inside the traces of tower and, at the level of the handles, the traces of files. It was left in its raw state. Object imbued with strength and sobriety for all interiors. Height: 14 cm for a weight of 4 kg. Width with handle: 18 cm. Width without handle: 15 cm. Pestle length: 28 cm.
