Claire BERGER Vintage 1970 Ceramic Pitcher – Stoneware from Puisaye La Borne

This superb vintage vase is made of ceramic. It is a creation by the ceramic artist Claire Berger in La Borne, Puisaye. It dates from the 1970s. It is a slender stoneware jug with a narrow neck, held by a small handle and adorned with an irregular glaze in shades of blue-grey and brown. This vase is signed on the pontil "BERGER" for Claire Berger, an American artist who settled in La Borne, France, in the 1970s. Alongside John Bailey (an English ceramicist), she developed a work characterised by the simplicity of forms, the use of natural glazes, and an aesthetic influence from Asian traditions. In 1985, she returned to the United States and founded her studio, Geneva Art Pottery, in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, in 1988. In very good condition, it measures approximately 11 cm wide and 20 cm high.
