Pair of toad armchairs – Napoleon III style – Purple velvet – 19th century

Pair of Napoleon III style toad armchairs, Second Empire period, covered in plain purple velvet. The rounded and enveloping backrest, characteristic of the toad model, is highlighted by a twisted braid in matching purple passementerie running along the contour of the backrest and the low armrests. The base is adorned with a continuous twisted fringe in purple passementerie partially concealing the conical wooden legs. The low seat height of 35 cm and the compact shape are typical of the toad armchair popularised during the Second Empire. Sold as a pair. Unit dimensions: H. 82 cm – W. 50 cm – Seat height 35 cm – Weight 12 kg. General condition good. The velvet shows some slight signs of wear due to the age of the pieces. Cleaning required.
