Ceramic vase produced by Spółdzielnia Milenium in Kraków in the 1970s. It features a slender, tall line with a gently tapered neck and rounded shoulders. The surface is covered with a highly glossy glaze, contrasting with the matte, warm, earthy tones: deep brown, caramel, ochre, and black. The character of the form is enhanced by a dynamic, irregular arrangement of vertical glaze drips and tonal transitions – on each circumference of the vase, the colour arrangement creates a unique, abstract pattern. The mid-century modern style is intertwined here with an organic approach to design, typical of late modernist Polish utility ceramics. The construction is uniform, without visible joints or handles, with a flat base ensuring stability. The item is in very good vintage condition – it shows no visible damage or signs of restoration; minor cracks or irregularities in the glaze are inherent to handmade production. In this 1970s form, the experiment of Poland, which – standing at the intersection of tradition and modernity – allowed itself bold attempts in artistic ceramics, resonates. The breakthrough decades at Kraków's Spółdzielnia Milenium are reflected here: the vase tells of times when the fluidity of the glaze determined the uniqueness of each piece, and the intense, earthy colours were as expressive as the form itself. The almost glassy gloss reflects light from the interior like a sheet of volcanic glass, while the abstract, descending swirls suggest an organic, free creation process. In a living room or collector's library, the 1970s vase can be paired with raw wood, relief ceramics, or graphite glass to bring out the depth of browns and the asymmetry of the pattern. Designed for mid-century modern and eclectic spaces, it will also work in the company of natural fabrics, cast iron lamps, or on a concrete console, where decorative glazes will emphasise architectural simplicity. It is worth pairing it with a single branch or leaving it empty as a sculptural accent that independently organises the field of view.
