Elegant pair of lacquered red and black cryptomeria wood tea serving trays. Typical of Japanese living, they were used to present tea or dishes with refinement. Features: • Japan, Meiji period (~1890) • Lightweight wood (cryptomeria) covered in red and black lacquer. • Sleek shape, curved feet. • Visible signs of time: cracks on the feet and surface, but the lacquer remains vibrant. • Dimensions: 29 x 28.5 x 9 cm. • Weight: 700 g (the pair) A beautiful patina, between wabi-sabi aesthetics and traditional Japanese table art.
