Adorable lamp, spirit "quinquet" to pose of the 50s. Very nice vintage desk lamp/table. Brass structure. Double opaline globe. Both lights are equipped with bayonet sockets (bulbs not included). It can be imagined on a bahut or a console in auxiliary lighting, bedside lamp or desk lamp. Its kerosene lamp spirit could also make you want to put it in the countryside. For the record: the quinquet, or quinquet lamp, is a type of oil lamp invented by the geneva physicist chemist ami argand hence its other name of lamp (d')argand. Its efficiency is 6 to 10 candelas brighter than that of previous lamps. Its more complete combution of the wick of the candle and oil than in other lamps required much less frequent trimming of the wick. In france, the lamp was named after antoine arnoult quinquet, a pharmacist in paris, who used the idea created by argant and popularized it in france. Quinquet is sometimes credited with adding the glass fireplace to the kerosene lamp we also know.
