Nightstand with secret drawers

This charming bedside table in light varnished wood with pretty “brace” shapes, thin, slender and slightly curved legs, has a few surprises in store! In addition to its small front drawer, it has two small secret drawers on the sides, very thin, whose ring-shaped handles are almost hidden because they are just below the upper tray. One is a simple small shelf, perhaps for placing a glass, the other has a hole and has a small round receptacle in gold metal. I imagine that it originally served as an ashtray but today it can be used to hide a small jewel, or why not to present business cards or some sweets in a shop entrance. It probably dates from the 60s or 70s. It is of good quality: solid wood, dovetail drawer assembly, neat gold metal handles. I dusted it well and gave it a very thin coat of satin varnish, to unify the colors a little and protect it for its future adventures. It is in good structural condition, stable and solid, without cracks or gaps, but does not hide its age and the traces of its previous lives: small marks on the tray (small scratches or marks of blows, hardly visible) and two traces circular (partial for one), more visible, but not that much (wet glasses or hot cups are the cause). It measures 63 cm in height, 41 cm in width, 29 cm in depth. It weighs approximately 3 kg.
