Exceptional and rare pair of wall-mounted consoles from the 1900s, in colonial/Orientalist style. Each sconce features a magnificent elephant head finely carved from dense, patinated wood, with the head and forehead supporting the upper shelf. The tusks are original and provide a striking contrast to the deep colour of the wood. Authenticity guaranteed: one of the two pieces bears the clear stamp engraved in the wood J. Derolland, a famous signature associated with fine craftsmanship and French fine tablet-making from the early 20th century. This is a genuine pair of homogeneous and inseparable origin, making them highly sought after in the current decoration market. Condition: generally good condition for objects over a century old, the wood has a superb original patina, with three (period) restorations under the shelves, which do not affect the solidity or the authentic charm of the whole.
