Set of 12 chairs model 3107 by Arne Jacobsen published by Fritz Hansen in teak, first edition, 1955-60

Iconic set of 12 model 3107 chairs, also known as "butterfly" or "Series 7," designed by the famous designer Arne Jacobsen and produced by Fritz Hansen. This rare series belongs to the very first edition, produced between 1955 and 1960. The structure of the chairs is composed of a molded plywood shell, obtained by superimposing thin layers of wood, a revolutionary process at the time, allowing the creation of a light, robust, and comfortable seat. Teak, used for some versions of this first edition, gives a particular warmth to the design thanks to its smooth finish and elegant brown hue. This teak model is highly sought after by collectors. The chrome-plated steel legs offer a marked contrast between the natural wood and the industrial metal, an emblematic characteristic of the modernist style. These chairs have been fully restored: the teak shell has been cleaned and oiled, the legs carefully refinished, and all plastic or rubber parts such as glides and seat supports have been replaced with high-quality certified material (invoices available). Regarding the condition, the teak shell shows some slight traces of time, but remains solid and without cracks at the base of the backrest, a rare point for this model often weakened over time. Note that this first edition is slightly smaller than its later versions.
