A beautifully crafted and exceptionally elegant Mid-Century Modern coffee table by Pesch of Cologne, Germany, dating from the 1960s. The table features a wonderfully long and slender rectangular form, executed in richly grained rosewood veneer with beautifully matched grain throughout the top. The raised tray-style top is framed by a finely finished rosewood border, giving the table an especially refined and architectural appearance. The elongated proportions, tapered square legs and restrained detailing reflect the influence of Scandinavian Modern and Danish Modern design, while the Pesch maker’s mark identifies the piece with the renowned German design and furniture company from Cologne. Pesch was particularly influential in introducing Scandinavian furniture and design to the German market during the post-war period. The combination of its exceptional length, slim silhouette and beautiful rosewood grain makes this a particularly striking coffee table. It works equally well in a Mid-Century Modern, Scandinavian, contemporary or eclectic interior.
