Pair of candlesticks, also called torches, when they are of quality and designed to carry a beeswax candle. These are originally made in gilded bronze. They were molded into two parts, the foot and the summer which is screwed on by a sometimes irregular thread. Remarkable is first, the alloy of metal used, bronze yes, but of a quality close to the brass that is used to make bells. You can see it at the crystalline tingling when you bump into them. Then every detail of the moulded relief was chiseled and guilloche by hand, a real work of goldsmith for this décor of friezes, extremely varied, with palmettes among others on the foot and on the bobèche. The was is chiseled on almost all its height in very fine mesh. They are in excellent condition, barely marked by their 200 years but they have been electrified in the past and both present a hole under the bobèche for the passage of wires, advantage if you want to make bedside lamps, disadvantage for a purist! The price takes this into account. They are about 27.5cm tall on a 13cm base for a weight of about 700gr each. Pieces of choice for a candlelit dinner! The price shown is for the pair and another similar pair is on sale on my shop if the guests are more numerous.
