Mahogany console with grey marble top and lion paw feet.

Superb Empire-style console in mahogany veneer and solid mahogany, circa 1820-1840. The top is made of grey marble veined with white, with slightly overhanging straight edges. The frieze is simple and straight. The side supports are in the shape of S-scrolls resting on a low shelf with a scalloped edge. The four legs are carved into lion's paws, with a blackened base, characteristic of the Empire and Restoration styles. The structure is solidly assembled, and the patina of the mahogany is beautiful and deep.
