Nicolas Fenal, a farmer, suddenly became the owner of a pottery founded in 1719 in Pexonne (Meurthe-et-Moselle). Upon his death in 1857, his children and nephews succeeded him and created the brand Fenal Frères (FF). After a turbulent period in Pexonne, one of the nephews, Théophile Fenal, established his own factory in Badonviller in 1897. The factory competed with his family's in Pexonne, but soon employed over 300 workers... In 1905, his son Edouard succeeded him during the best years, and the company employed up to 1, 000 staff.
