This wall light features a gilded wrought iron plate with an architectural design: a shield with concave shoulders encircles an oval openwork medallion punctuated by spheres, topped with a pediment with cut corners bearing a seed ornament; the base ends in a fluted and baluster-like cul-de-lampe. Two S-shaped light arms, made of hammered iron revealing the forge, curve laterally and support wide circular candle holders with gilded cylindrical sockets. This classicising vocabulary — shield, seeds, solid volutes — treated in gilded wrought iron with a vibrant patina, stylistically links this wall light to the work of Gilbert Poillerat, the great ironworker of the 1940s, a student of Brandt and author of a neoclassicism in iron that marked the French decor of the time. Condition report: Generally good condition. Gilding with a nuanced old patina, scattered wear revealing the iron, creating a beautiful effect. Electrical wiring to be checked before use. A characterful wall light, superb in an entrance or alongside a fireplace.
