Superb and rare tea or coffee service produced by Villeroy & Boch, Mettlach factory, made during the time of the Economic Union France-Saar (circa 1950-1959). This service perfectly illustrates the aesthetics of 1950s modernism, with its clean curved lines and deep black/yellow bright colour contrast that evokes the world of late Bauhaus design or Scandinavian productions from the same period. It is also found under the name "Biarritz". Each piece features a glossy black glaze on the outside and sunny yellow on the inside, with a graphic circular decoration very characteristic of the post-war years. Composition of the service: 1 teapot with lid, 1 sugar bowl with lid, 1 milk jug, 6 tea or coffee cups, 6 matching saucers. Condition: Generally in good condition. The glaze is shiny and bright, with a few discreet signs of use on the inside (notably, visible glaze cracks on the sugar bowl, without affecting usability). No chips, no cracks. Dimensions (for reference): Saucer diameter: approximately 13.5 cm, Cup height: 4 cm, Teapot height: 11 cm. A rare service, sought after by vintage design enthusiasts and collectors of post-war European ceramics. Perfect for a Mid Century Modern tea table.
