Magnificent large vintage Oushak kilim from Anatolia, entirely handwoven using traditional Turkish weaving techniques. Measuring 304 X 174 cm, this piece stands out with a particularly expressive geometric composition, organised in successive registers of large diamonds and stylised tribal motifs. The dark background, alternating deep brown and almost black shades, creates a spectacular contrast with the intense colours of the motifs: red, blue, pink, green, orange, purple, and cream. The large central diamonds are surrounded by smaller geometric shapes and decorative bands that give the whole a remarkable graphic rhythm. This highly structured construction recalls the traditional aesthetics of nomadic and rural textiles from Anatolia. The slight asymmetry of the patterns and the variations inherent in handwork give this piece a personality not found in contemporary mass-produced rugs.
