Set of six chairs with brown leather-upholstered shells and five-star aluminium bases. Original Fritz Hansen labels. Arne Jacobsen, Fritz Hansen, 1969, “Oxford” model. With the “Oxford” series, Arne Jacobsen developed a chair with an essential silhouette, built around the relationship between a continuous volume and an exceptionally light metal base. In this set of six examples, produced by Fritz Hansen in 1969, the shell—an element shaped to unite the seat and backrest in a single profile—is entirely upholstered in brown leather, with rounded edges that follow its form. The upholstered surface appears almost suspended above the slender central metal support, set into a five-star swivel aluminium base. The contrast between these two elements gives the chair much of its character: on one side, the visual continuity and softness of the leather; on the other, a metal structure reduced to a few clean, functional lines. The “Oxford” model was designed by Jacobsen in the 1960s as part of his work for St Catherine’s College, Oxford, and became one of the most recognizable expressions of his approach to seating, bringing form, ergonomics and construction together in a highly distilled design. The chairs retain their original Fritz Hansen labels, marked “Made in Denmark” and with code 0369. Good condition. They may show signs of age. Please pay attention to the photographs. AG515
