Vintage square plate in Italian majolica, handcrafted and painted by the SOLIMENE factory in Vietri sul Mare, on the Amalfi Coast. The decoration features four stylised fish painted in deep red tones, accompanied by green seaweed patterns and framed by a wide cobalt blue border. The graphic lines, bold colours, and deliberately free treatment of the motif are characteristic of Vietri decorative ceramics and its Mediterranean aesthetic. Founded in 1947, the SOLIMENE factory is one of the emblematic houses of Vietri sul Mare, an important historical centre for ceramic production in southern Italy. The piece is made of glazed red terracotta according to the tradition of majolica and is hand-decorated, with each example showing slight variations inherent to this method of production. Its slightly hollow square shape allows it to be used as a serving dish or presentation bowl. Its very graphic decoration also makes it a particularly interesting piece in a Mediterranean, modernist, or eclectic interior.
