Lucien Potronat was born in Paris on 5 October 1899 and died in Saint-Raphaël on 3 November 1973. He was a French painter and watercolourist. At the end of the First World War, he was one of the exhibitors at the Salon de Paris, where he sometimes used the pseudonym Jacques Warner. By the end of the 1930s, he settled on the Côte d'Azur, where he would remain until the end of his life. Fascinated by the light and warmth of the region, Lucien Potronat captured this in his paintings by depicting the local coastline with whitewashed villas covered in bougainvillea, near the characteristic blue of the Mediterranean under a clear sky. He is also known for his dancers in 1926, some of which were exhibited at the Winter Salon of 1933, as well as other works such as La Coulée, blast furnaces, and L'Isle-sur-Serein, exhibited at the Salon des indépendants in 1941.
