Art Deco statuette E. Gabard.

Superb and rare white marble (or alabaster) statuette representing a Virgin and Child with great finesse of execution. Work signed at the base "Gabard PAU" for Ernest Gabard (1879-1957), a famous Béarnais sculptor known for his monumental and religious works. Style: Art Deco / Regionalist (Pau, Béarn). Subject: A modern and touching representation of the Madonna lifting the Child Jesus towards the sky with outstretched arms. The drapery and clean lines are characteristic of the artist's style. Condition: Generally good condition, lovely patina of time (slight naturally ambered or used areas, see photos)... a few more yellowed stains... and a missing hand...
