Curtain filing cabinet

Double filing cabinet or curtain cabinet in oak, restored and redesigned in a dynamic meadow green. Vintage 50s/60s trade furniture, essential for administrative offices of the time. For an optimal restoration, it was necessary to carry out all the following operations: - complete dismantling of the three walls, the back and the two curtains (removal of the slats) - stripping of the old varnish with a scraper (the solid pieces, the panels and the slats) - cleaning with soda ash and lightening with hydrogen peroxide (in several applications with rinsing between each) - repair of damaged wooden parts (simple regluing or finger joints) - each slat was stripped, lightened, sanded and varnished before being reglued onto a new canvas. - the back panels, the top and the side plinths were changed. – the upper curtain and lock rails were re-veneered with oak veneers to hide old DIY traces. – the lower rear rail was widened for greater strength. – the curtain grooves were restored for optimal sliding. – the handles and lock escutcheons were stripped and polished. – manual sanding of the whole with different grits of abrasive to soften or remove as many defects as possible. – the interior panels were covered with an undercoat (sanded) then painted. – twenty-two shelves were made of plywood and reinforced with two solid oak rails (so they will not warp and will slide correctly for longer, the first serving as a hand grip and the one at the back holding the documents) – the cabinet was varnished in three layers with sanding of the first two. This filing cabinet is now fully functional again, the curtains and shelves slide perfectly, making the cabinet easy to use. Ideal in an office for filing files, in a workshop for storing supplies...
