The first world war broke out and banania became the comfort drink of warring france. Pierre-françois lardet decided to send fourteen cars filled with the famous chocolate powder to the front to give "strength and vigour" to the soldiers, including the senegalese gunners, who fought bravely. He then asks his friend and former colleague andreis to draw him one of these senegalese gunners to make it the symbol of the banania brand.
