☀️ a rare and original archaeological engraving from the chalcography of the louvre! ☀️ the temple of edfu or horus as it was around 1800. ☀️ this beautiful board of great precision has a sheet size of 50 X 65 cm and has an engraved part of 31 X 48 cm. ☀️ excellent general condition, clean and fresh exemplary, without freckles. Central engraved part in perfect condition. I did not notice anything particular but by the printing technique small marks or dots could be present. ☀️ the original plate used was elaborated around 1800 during the egyptian campaign of napoleon I and is part of the famous series -the description of egypt- this plate must have been drawn around 1990. ☀️ the drawing is by cécile and the engraving by lorieux. ☀️ the engraving shows a beautiful view of the interior of the portico of the temple. Dedicated to the cult of horus, it is the largest temple of the lagid dynasty and the second most important sanctuary in egypt after karnak. Built between -237 and -57, under the lagid or ptolemaic dynasty it is one of the best preserved temples in egypt. The god of the city was a falcon god, the horus of behedet.
