An oil on panel depicting a snowy landscape at the washhouse. Signed lower right Charles Picart le Doux, dated 1937. Engraved brass plaque on the back. Baguette frame. Dimensions 46 X 55 cm. Good condition. Charles Alexandre René Picart le Doux (1881-1959), French painter. He entered the École des Beaux-Arts of Jean-Léon Gérôme around 1900. A friend of Renoir, he freed himself from academicism and adopted an impressionist style for his landscapes. Picart le Doux presented his work at the salons of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, the Salon d'Automne, and the Salon des Tuileries. A painter of the École de Paris group, he received the Grand Medal at the Paris International Exhibition in 1937. He worked as a teacher at a free academy in Montparnasse. In 1950, he was named an officer of the Legion of Honor. In addition to paintings, he created various wall decorations, including the ceilings of the Normandie ocean liner. He also illustrated numerous literary works.
