Wilhelm Kåge vase for Gustavsberg, turquoise glaze, hand-turned, Sweden

Stoneware vase signed Wilhelm Kåge (1889–1960), legendary artistic director of the Gustavsberg factory and a founding figure of modern Scandinavian ceramic design. The shape is of great purity. The body is ovoid, slightly pinched at the waist, giving it a supple and almost organic silhouette. It narrows to a short neck with a rolled lip and rests on a small recessed foot. The deep turquoise glaze is rich and luxurious. It is satin and slightly textured, with a fine mottling that vibrates in the light. It is lighter and shinier on the edges of the neck and foot. The interior is fully glazed. Under the base are several impressed marks. There is the stamp "HANDDREJAD" (hand-turned), the anchor mark of Gustavsberg topped with the G and the signature "KÅGE", and a workshop mark. The foot is unglazed, revealing the light stoneware. This is an emblematic piece of Swedish modernism. It complements both a Scandinavian interior and a sleek contemporary decor. Dimensions. Height: 19 cm. Width: 13 cm. Condition.
