Painted ceramic owl – Mexican craftsmanship from Tonalá

Decorative ceramic owl, from Mexican craftsmanship, most likely from Tonalá in the state of Jalisco, an important centre of pottery tradition. The fully modelled silhouette is covered with a particularly graphic hand-painted decoration: large stylised flowers, foliage, circular patterns, and black lines stand out against a palette of terracotta, beige, black, and orange-red. The decoration continues on all sides, giving the piece a strong presence from any angle it is displayed. In good vintage condition, with a beautiful, homogeneous, and decorative crackle in the glaze, as well as small irregularities typical of handmade production. Some marks and minor wear are visible, particularly under the base and at the points of contact, without detracting from the overall piece (see photos). Not signed.
