The Royal Bed of Sumenep (Peranakan / Madura Style) – Polychrome. Structure made of ancient solid teak, hand-carved in high relief and openwork. Rich original polychromy (lacquer red pigments, gold, green, and black) depicting protective mythological creatures (phoenix with outstretched wings, Qilin). The headboard features a large golden crown carved in relief, emblematic of the official style of the Sumenep sultanate. It shows authentic signs of normal use related to time (slight wear of the original polychromy, minor natural drying cracks in the wood in places), which attests to its antiquity. The assembly is done in a traditional manner using mortise and tenon joints (without nails or screws).
