This beautiful painting is a work by the artist shizuo ashikaga (1917-1991). This rice paper engraving depicts a bird on a camellia branch, "teaoil plant". The technique is woodcut: beautifully crafted, the drawing is precise and detailed, enhanced with watercolor. It is a work from the mid-20th century. It looks like a drawing with its gray outline and its colors applied in small touches. Signed lower left, with a red inkan, this painting measures 28 X 22 cm. It is captioned in pencil on the mat: "teaoil plant by ashikaga". I note small stains on the paper and wear on the frame.
