Old ceramic soup tureen from Lunéville.

A vintage, bulbous soup tureen with hand-painted decoration in the traditional style of the great Lorraine houses. The round shape, well-balanced on its small pedestal, is accompanied by a domed lid topped with a handle shaped like a red and white striped button. The two pierced handles, discreetly decorated, elegantly complete the ensemble. The floral decoration, painted freely with a brush, is in line with the decorative tradition of Lorraine earthenware, where bouquets and stylised plant motifs adorned both everyday tableware and presentation pieces. The base bears the handwritten mark "K.G Lunéville", for Keller & Guérin. This factory, which traces its origins to the earthenware factory founded by Jacques Chambrette around 1730, was purchased by Sébastien Keller in 1786 before taking its definitive name in 1832 following the partnership with Guillaume Guérin. Having become one of the most important French earthenware factories of the 19th century, K&G Lunéville distinguished itself by the diversity of its production — plates, dishes, and complete services, as well as figurines and art objects — and by its iconic decorations of flowers, birds, and pastoral scenes, now sought after by collectors of antique earthenware.
