Exceptional fruitwood library/display cabinet made as a unique piece by Vincent Gonzalez, featuring glass doors with original shapes. The silhouette of this display cabinet is particularly rare: it was custom-designed to fit under a roof, which explains its slanted back, perfectly suited for a loft space. The story of the artist Vincent Gonzalez. Vincent GONZALEZ was born in 1928 in Linares, in northern Andalusia, Spain, in the province of Jaén. The young Vincent's life changed dramatically with the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. He was only seven years old. His father was arrested in the street and then shot along with his older brother by Francoist soldiers. His mother placed Vincent and his five-year-old sister on a train to France. A few days later, the two very young orphans arrived in Lyon. They had no family, did not speak French, and knew no one. France then mobilised to welcome the victims of the war. Networks of solidarity quickly formed, particularly in Lyon. Vincent and his sister were taken in by the Leseigne family, who offered them a home and the affection they so desperately needed. Vincent learned cabinetmaking as well as painting. His talent was quickly noticed, and he began working in the Guillotière district of Lyon. This trade would become his vocation: he worked independently while collaborating with renowned cabinetmakers and decorators in Lyon. It is in cabinetmaking and marquetry that Vincent Gonzalez fully expresses his talent. Each of his creations is a unique piece, the result of exceptional craftsmanship.
