A Unique Piece Charged with History: The Epic of Barcelonnette. More than just a simple period console, this piece is an authentic witness to the golden age of the Ubaye valley and the "Barcelonnettes" who made their fortune in Mexico in the 19th century. Proof of Provenance. The handwritten signature "Chapuy," still visible on an original reinforcement bracket, confirms that this piece was custom-made for one of the famous historic villas of Barcelonnette. The Chapuy family, pioneers of Franco-Mexican textile trade, only commissioned the best. Acquiring this piece means owning a part of this exceptional migratory and artistic saga. The Art of Regional Cabinetmaking. One admires the finesse of its reinterpreted Directoire/Consulate design, with its carved uprights featuring a delicate floral motif and its original caning, perfectly tensioned. The current solid wood top, reimagined throughout the family history for greater lightness and practicality (the original marble often being a hindrance to modern logistics), boasts a superb satin natural patina, simply nourished with beeswax. An Authentic Investment. Kept in the Chapuy family since its creation, this console is in remarkable condition, completely sound. Details: Caning in excellent condition. Visible handwritten signature. Marble top replaced with a solid wood top to add lightness and modernity to the piece.
