Vintage Space Age Papillona Floor Lamp by Afra & Tobia Scarpa for Flos, 1970s

Postmodern floor lamp by the Italian manufacturer Flos, designed by Afra & Tobia Scarpa in the 1970s. This design is striking due to its impressive height of almost 2 m. The delicate stem, which occupies almost the entire height of the lamp, is remarkable. It widens at the top and bottom to form the head of the luminaire and the base. The front and back of the head of the luminaire are closed off by diffuser and reflector panels made of prismatic glass. Thus, the luminaire primarily serves as a ceiling projector while allowing light to pass through the glass of the head. The anthracite and red colour scheme is particularly striking. The red core of the luminaire extends from the base through the stem to the head. In the stem, the red element serves as a conduit for the cable.
