Mole sofa in leather by Sergio Rodrigues. 1960s Made in Brazil

First drawn up in 1957, the Mole chair started production in 1961. That same year it won first prize at the 4th International Furniture Competition, in Cantu, Italy, According to design historians the frame's wide girth heavily influenced an abrupt change in european design, ending the previous style of fine and thin pointy legs. Considered the first piece of postmodern design, yet incongruous to that style due to its relaxed and casual aesthetic. Made in brazil from solid native Tigerwood (Astronium lecointei) and tobacco coloured leather. Restored condition with the original leather showing signs of wear. The leather straps that harness the sofa are in excellent condition.
