Unlike berber rugs with wool strands knotted one after the other, kilim is a flat-woven rug and is therefore less dense and thick. Kilim is a turkish word meaning woven textile, it is used throughout the arab world where flat woven carpets are made. Like the berber carpets, kilim carries a very strong cultural identity and represents the tribe in which it is woven. Thus, its patterns, colors and wool vary according to its geographical origin.
