Superb decorative ceramic plate from the mid-century created by the German ceramist Heinz Theo Dietz in his workshop in Königswinter, Germany. It features a magnificent deep blue glaze, enhanced by subtle purple tones, and is decorated with sgraffito geometric patterns in cream and black. The abstract radial decoration, reminiscent of a stylised dandelion flower, gives this piece a strong graphic presence. A beautiful example of German studio pottery from the 1950s–1960s, both decorative and highly sought after by collectors. The piece is signed and numbered (model 9a) underneath.
