Very good condition. *Yvonne Canu, born in 1921 in Meknès (Morocco), is a French neo-impressionist painter known for her pointillist paintings. She began her artistic training at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, but her studies were interrupted by the Second World War. During the conflict, she worked as a nurse in North Africa before returning to Paris after the Liberation. Settled in Montmartre, she mingled with established artists such as Léonard Tsuguharu Foujita, who introduced her to plein air painting and the principles of Impressionism. She continued her training at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière alongside artists like Ossip Zadkine. In 1955, Yvonne Canu definitively turned to neo-impressionism, influenced by the discovery of Georges Seurat's work A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. She then adopted a pointillist technique, using juxtaposed touches of colour to create vibrant and luminous compositions. Her preferred subjects are landscapes and maritime scenes, particularly those of the Côte d'Azur, such as Saint-Tropez, Collioure, and the bay of Saint-Raphaël. Yvonne Canu's work is characterised by a palette of bright colours and a poetic atmosphere, capturing the light and ambiance of the places she paints.
