Magnificent English naval chest (Bristol) painted on the top flap with an armada of ships under sail. On the front, the family coat of arms is painted with the inscription "urbs prima in indis", in other words "the first city in India". Probably a work from the late 18th century or 19th century. Very decorative but also very practical (see dimensions below). The chest is made of wood, reinforced underneath and on the upper edges inside. It is covered with black tar paint for waterproofing and on the edges of the lid have been added leather protections (which have dried over time but are still mostly present). On each side, a handle in perfect condition. They fulfill their role for moving the chest (be careful, however, not to carry it when it is full). It is in very good general condition. A few small paint chips, a few torn pieces of leather, a few places where wear are visible. But this chest has lived a long life before reaching you. It has been used as a bar (its height is perfect for this) and as a toy chest for the past few years. It remains beautiful and very solid and will last for a very long time! I can only encourage you to see the following photos. Dimensions: Exterior. Height: 50.5 cm; Length: 82.5 cm; Depth: 50.5 cm. Interior: Height: 43 cm; Length: 75.5 cm; Depth: 47 cm.
