These vintage flutes replicate the design of the Caton model, one of the great classics of French table glassware — flared drinking bowl with cut corners, stem with a central button marked by rings, and round foot with a collar. The flat-cut decoration on the body beautifully captures the light, while the baluster stem gives the whole piece a somewhat ceremonial elegance typical of festive tableware from the past. The glass is clear and thick, with the small irregularities and bubbles characteristic of handmade production. The Caton model, which appeared in the joint Baccarat/Saint-Louis catalogues as early as 1841 and was named by Saint-Louis in 1877, enjoyed immense success and was widely adopted by many French glassworks throughout the 20th century. The base of each glass bears a moulded mark "France" accompanied by a circled R symbol.
