A true piece of Indian architectural art, this wall-mounted console with a basin (or wall-mounted shelf) is an authentic period element from a havelî in northern India, specifically from the regions of Rajasthan or Gujarat. Dated from the late 19th century to the very early 20th century (1890–1910), it originally came from a traditional structural element (a corbel supporting an arch or sculpted balcony), which has since been preserved and subtly reinterpreted as a functional wall console. Entirely hand-carved from solid noble wood (teak or old mango), this piece stands out for its remarkable density and strong sculptural presence. The vertical base reveals sophisticated ornamental work, blending geometric friezes, floral motifs, and deeply incised scrolls, characteristic of traditional Marwari art. Its upper half-moon receptacle, carved from the solid wood, elegantly balances the whole. The natural patina, rich and nuanced, attests to its antiquity and gives it an authentic Wabi-Sabi aesthetic. Tool marks, irregularities, and signs of old assembly enhance its unique character. Height 33 cm. Length 34 cm. Depth 12 cm. Back mounting system in old wrought iron, stable and ready to be placed. Structurally sound piece, sold in its original condition, without modern restoration. A true fragment of historical architecture, both decorative and steeped in history.
