Period: ca. 1930-1950. These exceptional character bedside tables are one of a kind and of high quality. They are versatile and can also be used side by side in an entrance hall or as a display shelf in every part of the house. The lower cabinets have a drawer lined with red felt, a niche and a hinged door with compartment. The shallow upper part has two shelves. They are made with mahogany veneer and have brass angle protectors. The table top was lined with a stained formica that is now painted with glossy black lacquer. The lower compartment consists of a metal container and was previously used to hide the chamber pot; this has been thoroughly cleaned and painted with black metal paint (to prevent rust). The removable upper part is placed on the bottom with grooves and has holes in the back wall to fix it to the wall. The only other similar design i've come across is the nightstand designed by famous scottish art nouveau designer charles rennie mackintosh (1916); I believe these cabinets are inspired by his design during the late art deco period. I date them around 1930-1950. Status: good. Robust. Restorations were carried out: several screw holes on the sides were filled and camouflaged (a former owner had apparently screwed them on the sides of the bed and other furnishings). Some lack of plating at the corners but these are discreet. Table top and compartment are painted. No keys for drawer locks. See photos. Dimensions: 162 cm high, 29.5 cm wide. Lower part: 80 cm high, 30 cm deep. Upper part: 12 cm deep. 15 kg per cabinet. Shipping note: they will be shipped in two separate boxes. The shipping price is shown for all two boxes.
