Rare a.arbey (au vieux noyer) bedside table from the beginning of the century in walnut.

ARBEY is a legendary furniture brand. Launched in the 19th century, it specialized in furniture manufacturing around 1900, particularly office furniture. Located on the famous Boulevard St Antoine in Paris (with its workshops in Pré St Gervais), ARBEY markets its furniture under the name AU VIEUX NOYER. Their superb office filing cabinets are sought after for their design and quality. However, we come across products from the "Cozy Corner Arbey" collection much less frequently. It consists of "rustic and modern" furniture that "adapts to all interiors." It is in fact a classic production known as "du Faubourg, " namely furniture styles made according to the rules of the art. Our bedside table is made of solid walnut and speckled marble. The marble was broken on the left corner of the back, and restored. It is now solid and perfectly functional but retains the slightly disturbing traces of its accident (see photo). It opens with a small drawer and a pivoting door that locks thanks to its brass strike plate that produces a very satisfying little "click". The interior is lined with marble, as a chamber pot was placed there. Very elegant, of excellent craftsmanship, it also has a few small snags at the bottom right of the pivoting door. Part of a baguette has also been restored in the past. But it is on the back, it is not visible. It is by turning it over that we come across its identity card: "AU VIEUX NOYER - Ameublements - A. ARBEY, Paris. 8 in Faubourg St Antoine." A guarantee of quality, a vector of history, this Faubourg stamp is always a little moving. Especially on such an unusual model from the Arbey range.
