In this advertisement, you will find a superb XXL Uzbek carpet made using a mixed technique and woven flat. The colourful, checkered medallions, or 'guls', with cross-shaped centres embroidered on this flat weave from Central Asia are considered by most experts to be the work of Uzbek Lakai weavers. This long embroidered piece, made up of multiple bands of red flat weaving, could have been used to decorate the interior walls of a yurt or as a graphic and colourful utilitarian cover. While the multiple gul pattern originates from velvet weaving, its free rendering here is both playful and evocative. Made in the current territories of Uzbekistan in the early 20th century. The carpet is in good antique condition with some signs of age and use. If you have any further questions regarding this piece, please feel free to contact me. Happy shopping!.
