Magnificent handmade ceramic bowl in raku style (a technique of japanese origin characterized by visible cracks on the enamel, often accompanied by bright colors. Rather here in the presence of a western raku style (or modern raku), popularized in the 20th century in europe and the united states, often more colorful and expressive, as for this purple pink bowl. Cracks clearly visible in the enamel (network of fine cracks). Strong contrasts between shiny enamel and smoky or matte areas. Bright purple color. "shell" shape. Very organic and spontaneous, almost "primitive" appearance. Bowl bearing the same incised signature "mde", unidentified ceramist/artisan. No indication either for the provenance and the period. Good condition. Dimensions: length 23 cms, width 18 cms, height 7 cms. I also have in my shop bowls from the same ceramic artisan (assorted shapes and colors).
