Antique armchair in walnut and studded leather, 17th century

Rare character armchair, made of walnut, from the 17th century. Its austere and architectural silhouette fits within the tradition of late Renaissance seating. It is distinguished by its high back adorned with scrollwork and a central shield, its side posts decorated with large nails, its straight armrests, and its elegant openwork stretcher with interlaced motifs. The combination of dark patinated wood, antique leather, and its gilded decorations gives it a unique presence, reminiscent of Italian Renaissance-style seating. These stamped gilded leathers were very fashionable in prestigious furniture of the 17th century, particularly in Italy (Lombardy, Veneto) and Spain, as well as in France under Louis XIII. An authentic piece of character, ideal for an antique interior, a cabinet of curiosities, or an eclectic decor. Condition: antique, with marked patina and significant wear. The leather of the seat is worn, and the back shows visible alterations, particularly on its lower edge. These marks testify to its history. Good stability, sold as is, without recent restoration.
