Slate & Chrome coffee table by Draenert 1970s

Small coffee table by Peter Draenert, combining fossil-bearing slate with brushed stainless steel. The grey-green stone top has developed a patinated surface, with subtle fossil impressions, tonal variations and natural irregularities that give the material added depth. The two curved runners make the substantial top appear almost weightless. Draenert used this type of oil shale in his early table designs from the late 1960s onwards. This example likely dates from the 1970s and is in good vintage condition with light signs of use consistent with age.
