This lovely rectangular mirror is ideally placed on a classic fireplace but can also be repurposed as a full-length mirror leaning against the wall of a bedroom (strongly discouraged if there are children around). The mouldings feature a curved profile adorned with corner decorations in a romantic design of floral scrolls, with a subtle interplay of gilding alternating between matte and burnished finishes (the shiny parts are due to the polishing of the gold with an agate stone, which requires a particularly long working time). This mirror is a synthesis of the work of gilders from that era. The high standards demanded by a clientele that became wealthy due to the emerging industrial revolution allowed for this exceptional work intended for the elite.
